Revealing God’s Greatness
The book of Psalms is probably the most read book in all of scripture. It is filled with the full range of human emotions from deep human sorrows, suffering, and despair to exhilarating joy, peace, praise and the worship of God. The inspired words of God written through various authors brings great comfort and healing to anyone going through difficult circumstance and hardships. They touch one’s heart and soul and remind us of God’s greatness, His goodness, His truth, His righteousness, His wisdom and His power and sovereignty over all of creation.
There are many Psalms that uplift and encourage one to seek out the Lord and meditate on His Words of truth and His greatness and Psalm 19:1-6 is one that does just that. It begins with King David standing in reverent awe over all of God’s creation and how His glory has not only been declared in all the heavens but been magnified to all the earth below. God’s splendor and handiwork is seen throughout all of the universe and is on display day after day.
The Apostle Paul speaks to this truth as found Romans 1:19,20 “ They[you,I] know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them[us]. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they[you,I] can clearly see His invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature. So they[you,I] have no excuse for not knowing God.” NLT (emphasis mine)
How often do we take the time to truly marvel over the magnificent splendor of God’s beauty ? Or how often do we truly meditate and ponder His greatness, wisdom and power ? Permit me to paraphrase the rest of Psalm 19:7-14 and just let the words speak to you and be filled with God’s love in your heart and in your soul. (verses from the New Living Translation.)
