Five Features of a Believers Hope
The apostle John in his writings speaks to those of us who truly belong to Christ. We have an unwavering hope that one day He will come again to judge the world and make all things new. It is to test all genuine Christians in our faith, love and obedience to God’s moral and righteous ways of living. It is our willingness to do as Christ has taught His followers to do in preparation of our salvation and the hope of everlasting life.
Here are the five verses of Hope that all true genuine followers of Christ who love Him, know and understand. We wholeheartedly trust in the truth, walk in the light, and persevere in obedience and faithfulness at the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We read in 1 John 2:28 “ And now, little children, ABIDE IN HM, so that when He appears we may have confidence and not shrink from Him in shame at His coming.”
We know that if we abide in Him and His words abide in us that we belong to Him and can rest assured of our inheritance in heaven. (John 15:1-6; 1 John 2:24-27 As we actively abide and remain strong in our faith to the end we eagerly await with perseverance. (John 6:37-40 ; Romans 1:16,) We must remember that abiding in Christ is not a passive exercise but active on a continual daily process.
1John 2:29 “ If you know that He is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of Him.”
Righteousness and faith is a gift of God and is evidence of the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Being born again is the regenerating work that only God imparts on true believers. It is when Christ makes us come alive by the indwelling Spirit and we begin to live through Him and for Him in Spirit deepening our love and trust in Him.
1 John 3:1 “ See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God, and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.”
Christ demonstrated His great love for us that while we were yet sinners He died so that we might live through Him in the Spirit.
1John 3:2 “ Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.”
We know that as children of God we have the indwelling Spirit living within us and that when Christ appears we will be raised with Him in the same power that raised Jesus from the dead as found in 1 Corinthians 6:14. We also know that the indwelling Spirit is our guarantee of our inheritance as members of God’s family as found in Ephesians 1:14.
1John 3:3 “ And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure.”
It is the work of the Holy Spirit within us that enables us to become more Christlike in our behaviors, thoughts and attitudes in faithful obedience. And we know the great love God has for us, as true Christ followers, so that we have assurance that on the day of judgement we shall be with Him forever in perfect love. (read 1 John 4:13-19)
