God's Faithful Promises
Simon Peter, a fisherman, one of the original twelve disciples who was divinely chosen by God to be a leader and was instrumental in the establishment of the Christian church as found in Acts 1 -12 He was one of only three to be part of Jesus’ inner circle and witnessed the transformation of Jesus as found in Matthew 17.
His words of truth were written to encourage us in growing stronger in our faith and in our spiritual walk with Christ. He stresses the need to expand our knowledge and come into a deeper intimate relationship with Christ through prayer and study.
Let the words of Peter fill your heart and mind with the power of God’s spoken words of truth.
2 Peter 1:1-4 “To those who have obtained[received] like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: v2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. v3 As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. v4 By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (emphasis mine)
Our Precious faith – Grace and Peace be Multiplied – Through Knowledge – His Divine Power – Giving Us Everything – To Live a Godly Life – Calling Us – To His Glory - Giving Us Exceedingly Great and Precious Promises – To Partake in His Divine Nature – Escaping the Corruption of this World
Precious faith and righteousness is a gift from God through grace and is not something we get on our own. It is the divine power of God through regeneration or re-birth which happens to us when we become true believers in Christ. The power of the Holy Spirit is what works within us to live and grow in godliness and in our obedience to God’s will and His loving ways.
Peter then goes on to tell us the 8 essential traits that will help us achieve and grow stronger in our faith and our continual walk with Christ as partakers of the divine nature of God. These are found in 2 Peter 1:5-8 and permit me to paraphrase.
