Blessings and Song of Mary
The Blessings and Song of Mary
Somehow during Christmas with all its business and rush we miss the most significant blessings of Mary, the mother who gave birth to the most powerful force in all the universe. We forget that she was a woman with a very strong faith and was chosen by God to deliver His beloved Son into the world to save it from sin, death and destruction.
Imagine, a young woman, during the course of a routine, ordinary day, suddenly hearing from an angel of God, Gabriel, who said to her in Luke 1:28 “ Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women !” When she then saw Him she had to have been terrified and greatly afraid as the angel said to her in v 30 “ Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favor with God.”
Gabriel, then drops the indescribable gift on her, by saying v31 “ Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.” v32 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.” Words cannot describe, I am sure, what must have been running through Mary’s mind. It is not written and can only be assumed that this whole divine encounter, is beyond human comprehension.
Her response to this astonishing revelation in v34 “How can this be, since I do not know a man ? To which Gabriel replied in v35 “ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore also, that the Holy One who is to be born will be the Son of God.” To hear this divine blessing that she was to deliver the promised Messiah had to have been so overwhelming and surely would have filled her heart with joy beyond measure.
The Son of God – Conceived by the Holy Spirit – Born of the Virgin Mary. Let us be in reverent awe and be reminded of the power of Almigthy God in v37 “ For with God nothing will be impossible.” Her faith then is affirmed in v45 “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”
Mary then goes on to praise the Lord for this incredible gift and privilege of being chosen to give birth and raise our beloved Jesus Christ. Read and rejoice with all your heart in Luke 1:46-55.
Let us be filled with wonderous awe, great joy and peace as we approach the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ !! Our greatest gift !! Let us also give thanks to God for the Blessed Mother Mary for her role on this glorious day.
