Wisdom or Foolishness - Where Do You Stand ?
1Corinthians 1:18 “ For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
My friends where do you stand on the subject of wisdom ? Do you place more value in human wisdom and yourself, or the divine wisdom which comes from God ? Do you believe in the power and truth of God’s word or is your knowledge of truth defined according to what you believe to be true?
For the majority of people living in this age, most put their trust and faith in themselves/others and consider the power of God foolishness. Why do you suppose this is true ? Because people listen, study and learn from human knowledge and pay little attention to the words of God. We learn from parents, teachers, preachers, friends, so called experts, co-workers, spouses, news, social media etc.
We then formulate an opinion based on whatever we accept and come to believe as the truth. This truth then is reflected in all our thoughts, attitudes and behaviors with how we will live our lives.
In Corinthians1:20 we read “ Where is the one who is wise ? Where is the teacher of the law ? Where is the philosopher of this age ? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world ?
God’s plan of salvation and His actions throughout history demonstrates how foolish the wisdom of the world is. Only the truth of God endures through every civilization and through every culture including the one we now live in. Job 12:13 “ To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are His.”
v21 “ For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.” v25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men."
God, in His infinite, unsearchable wisdom, wisely established that people could not come to know Him by human wisdom because that would exalt man and not God. Worldly wisdom tries to find evidence by reason and logic by the intellectual mind as what can be seen or can be known, and disregards what cannot be seen. Knowing God comes from the heart and for those of us who believe, live our lives by faith not by sight. – (2Cor. 5:7)
True followers of Christ accept and understand what Paul said in Corinthians 1:30 “ Of Him(God) you are in Christ Jesus , who became for us wisdom from God – and righteousness, sanctification and redemption.”
The power of the cross and the resurrection of Jesus Christ transforms lives when, beyond a shadow of doubt, we receive God’s love into our hearts and allow God’s spirit of wisdom and truth to penetrate every fiber of our inner being.
Let me leave you with these words of truth to meditate, ponder and think about as you reflect on the power of wisdom from God.
Job 28:20,21 “ From where does wisdom come ? And where is this place of understanding ?” v21 “ It is hidden from the eyes of all the living.”
Proverbs 4:4,7 “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commandments and live. Get wisdom ! Get understanding ! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth, Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom and in all your getting get understanding.
Proverbs 4:23 “ Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”
Proverbs 3:5,6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths, Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.”
