As we celebrate the Fourth of July and our independence let us pause, reflect and truly understand this great nation and the divine intervention that God had on our Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the writing of United States Constitution.
The unanimous Declaration Of Independence of the thirteen United States of America - JULY 4, 1776
“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”
In the very first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence are the words Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitles them. Does this not speak to the Divine intervention that God had on our Founding Fathers ? The laws of Nature are the very laws that God created in the beginning of all things here on earth and in heaven. All things have been created and are the wonderful works of Almighty God. John 1:1-5 “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
In the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence we read:
“ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
What does this say — Truths are self evident – Created equal - Endowed by their Creator – Unalienable Rights - Jesus Christ, who is the truth, tells us in John 14:6 “ I am the way, the truth, and the life.” – Acts 17:28 “ For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.” My friends, the first two paragraphs of the second most important documents in the history of mankind (the first being the Bible) mentions God twice. (The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the U.S. are the second most important documents ever written)
The U.S. Constitution recognized that certain universal rights cannot be taken away by legislation, as they are beyond the control of a government, being naturally given to every individual at birth, and that these rights are retained throughout life. Genesis 1:27 “ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”
Personal rights held by an individual which are not bestowed by law, custom, or belief, and which cannot be taken or given away, or transferred to another person, are referred to as “Inalienable rights.”
And the third paragraph of the Declaration says “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Now just spend a few extra minutes as you read the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights - The Original 10 - December 15, 1791, as it relates to the very freedoms that you and are so privileged to have in this great nation.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Establish Justice – Ensure Domestic Tranquility – For the Common Defense – General Welfare – Secure the Blessings of Liberty. Again to indicate the Divine intervention brought forth by the hand of God in the writing of the U.S. Constitution.
As discussed above The Declaration of Independence gives three examples of inalienable rights, in the well-known phrase, “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Psalm 139:13-14 “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” Whether you care to admit it or not we belong to God who sustains us and gives us life. Philosophers and scholars, who held widely differing beliefs, generally agree on the one point that inalienable rights(God given) are something that cannot be taken from the people, even at the hands of the government.
Now just in the very first Amendment to the Constitution it gives us five basic freedoms and it reads . Freedom of religion) 13 – Freedom of Speech - Freedom of the Press – Freedom to Peacefully Assemble – Freedom to Petition the Government
Let us also read Amendment 14 - All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Let me just leave you all with words spoken by Jesus Christ Himself in Matthew 22:37-40 “ You shall love the Lord Your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the first and great commandment. And the second is just like it: “ Your shall love your neighbor as yourself. “
And again spoken by Jesus Christ Himself in Matthew 7:12 “ Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
There are many factions intent on destroying the very foundation of this great nation and so I encourage you all to educate yourselves on these issues and spend time in the greatest documents ever written in history - The Bible, The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the U.S. of America.
